CIRCE stands for "circular" in the circular bioeconomy. Our founder team started process development in 2018 and filed our first bioreactor patent. The process and the strains have been progressively refined, and today, our interdisciplinary team has created an optimised bioprocess for high yield productivity. In early 2020 we signed a collaboration agreement with an Institute which kicked off our bacterial library. In 2021 two academic joint ventures were finalised with our partners at the Technische Universität Wien. Today our in-house and collaboration partners for applied science sit in Austria, at Universität Wien. We are engaged in 3 international R&D projects, amongst them INSPIRE. Our technology allows bulk product manufacturing without primary agricultural products - this gives scalability and climate-resilience!
We currently run 2 sites: Our R&D gas fermentation labs in Seestadt/Austria (2x19L and 1 x150L stirred tank, 1x400L loop fermenter) and our scale-up site (BCS) in Teesside, UK, with a 5000L loop fermenter.
Our Base Camp Site (BCS) - a 5,000L loop fermenter, with associated downstream processing, paves the way to our first Circe Mega Site (CMS). We are already in very early discussions with both trapped and biogas supply chains for our first full Circe Mega Site, a 20,000 tonne per year protein production facility.
